In 2003, I decided the reform that makes all other reforms possible is public funding of campaigns (not an original thought, of course) . I joined the California Clean Money Campaign and became trained as a speaker. I spoke in many different venues in Northern California from 2003 through 2006.

In order to fully fund the campaigns for candidates from assembly persons through the governor in California would cost each adult in our state the equivalent of one coffee latte and muffin PER YEAR.

I thought it would catch on if people realized how little it cost to free candidates from special interest money. Alas, most often I was wrong.

Perhaps now more people see the connection between the decisions the deciders make and where they get their money to run for office.
